Plan

Begin with research questions that target user, task and environment.

Use multiple methods

Field research, observation, interviews, questionnaires/surveys, focus groups and task analysis reveal different evidence.

Analyse

Turn data into user characteristics, behaviours, wants, needs and design requirements.

Multidisciplinary teams improve understanding because different disciplines interpret the user, task and environment through different expertise.

A large, high-contrast ticket-machine interface was developed with users who have low vision, then adopted for the whole station. Which strategy is this?

Redesign a medication organizer for older adults.

Users report difficulty opening lids, reading labels and remembering the sequence.

Identify four different “people” lenses you would use before ideating.
Possible lenses: anthropometric reach/grip; physiological strength/visual accuracy; sensory/cognitive accessibility; user observation/task analysis; usability objectives; standards/safety; intended-user persona. Strong answers choose lenses that reveal different evidence, not four synonyms.
