IA Day 4
Persona, Task Analysis & Pain Points
Mini-lesson on making Criterion A evidence specific and connected, then protected work time.
Does your persona + storyboard make the redesign opportunity unavoidable?
The goal is to leave class with visible evidence—not just ideas in your head.
Persona and storyboard should tell the same evidence story.
Persona
Relevant characteristics, context, preferences, motivations and requirements.
Storyboard
Observed task steps that show where those characteristics / context matter.
Pain points
Specific failures, workarounds, effort or confusion supported by evidence.
Opportunity
A redesign direction that can later become the problem statement.
Remove any persona detail that does not influence the redesign.
“Enjoys movies and has a dog.”
May be irrelevant to the product / task.
“Carries books in one hand during the task; reduced grip after sports practice.”
Directly affects interaction, ergonomics and potential requirements.
Each frame should show evidence—not a generic sequence.
What is the user doing?
Observable task step.
What goes wrong?
Pain point, effort, error, workaround or confusion.
Why here?
Environment, body position, other object, timing or capability that affects success.
Build the core evidence of Criterion A.
Could a reader understand the problem without you explaining it verbally?
Before you leave…
Human-Centred Design Challenge
Keep the evidence chain moving: user → research → decision → test.
